Google releases info on the 2014 trends

Being the world's favourite search engine gives Google a lot of insight into what people across the globe care about most. Every day millions of people use the service to find everything from earth shattering scientific discoveries to the best way to make a chocolate cake, and every year the web giant gives us a quick peak into the most popular of these searches.

Google's trending charts give us an insight in to the biggest headlines, celebrities and cake recipes of 2014. Some surprises include Flappy Bird beating Destiny and Fifa 15 to the most searched game of the year while Peppa Pig took first place in the UK's most searched TV show. Unsurprisingly though, it's the World Cup that topped the UK's trending searches in 2014, as we followed along with the most important sporting competition of the year.
