BT announces fibre broadband now covers over half of Wales

More and More properties across Wales can now access BT's superfast broadband service. 55% of homes and businesses in the area are now able to connect to the fibre network, offering approximately 800,000 premises download speeds of over 24Mb.

The major urban areas have, for the most part, been covered by BT's commercial rollout of the service. However, many have benefitted from the ongoing Superfast Cymru programme, funded by both the public and private sectors. By 2016, the Welsh Government hopes this programme will aid in extending the reach of the fibre network to 96% of Wales.

Bill Murphy, BT's Managing Director, said:

More than half of homes and businesses across Wales are now able to trade, market, video conference, game or watch TV using high-speed fibre broadband, and this number is increasing every week.

We're looking forward to bringing this life-changing technology to much more of Wales over the next couple of years.
