I'm ready to switch, how do I move to Sky broadband?

  • Check availability: Is your chosen Sky broadband deal available where you live?
  • Sign up & book installation: Call your new supplier and set an installation date
  • Let your current supplier know that you are leaving and ask them to supply you with your MAC code
  • Tell Sky your MAC code, so that it can transfer across your existing phone number
  • Make sure to tell your current supplier the exact installation date for your new service, so that they don't cancel your existing service before your new broadband kicks in, otherwise you might end up with a few days in between connections
How do I set up my Sky broadband service?

You will receive a Sky setup kit, complete with Sky Hub, through the post. First things first, check your Sky activation date (it's on the top of the box). If your activation date has already arrived, then all you need to do is follow the instructions in this handy Sky Hub Set Up guide from the Sky website.

How can I make my Sky broadband faster?

Check for any known Sky service issues in your area, and run a speed test first just to be double sure you're definitely receiving speeds that are significantly under the 'up to' speeds for your package. It's worth trying this at different times of day, as it might just be that lots of people are online right now and the service is a little slower due to peak time traffic.

The fantastic Sky broadband and home phone diagnostic tool will help you troubleshoot any issues you're experiencing with the service and hopefully fix them yourself at home with the minimum of fuss and hassle.

Here are our top tips for making your Sky broadband connection faster:

  • Place your Sky Hub in a good position, away from your TV, any concrete walls, floors and wires.
  • Make sure your router is connected to the master socket via a microfilter, and that all telephones and devices connected to phone sockets are using micofilters too.
  • Turn it off and on again. It might seem simple but this often solves any smaller technical problems.
  • If you experience Wi-Fi issues, try connecting an Ethernet cable to see if it's an internet service problem or a Wi-Fi signal issue
How to use the Sky broadband service status tool

Sometimes issues like bad weather, essential engineering work and service outages can affect your Sky TV signal, broadband connection or home phone service. The quickest way to check for any current issues with the Sky network, is to use the free service checker tool on Sky's website.

How to use the Sky Service checker tool

  1. Visit http://servicestatus.sky.com/uk
  2. See if there is a current reported issue, and any advice about dealing with it, on the web page
  3. An orange or red light will show an issue with a particular part of the service, whereas a green light shows that the service is considered to be working fine
  4. Follow any advice offered by Sky in order to resolve the issue

You can see when the issue was last updated, check for assistance or tips from other Sky users on the Sky help forum, or contact Sky directly for further assistance.
