Google has announced the launch of its latest
product in the UK - Google TV, an IPTV
service.
As a quick reminder, the company wanted to launch the service in
early 2012, however there was rain on Google's parade in the form
of complaints from the US market due to the insufficient
video content available and what some thought was
not a witty enough interface design.
Google now promised that customers will be able to read up on
the latest news on its own browser, Chrome, while simultaneously
watching their favourite shows with the help of a set-top-box,
which would set potential buyers back by
£200-£300.
Meanwhile, YouView is trying to hurry and
release its own IPTV service, which also faced numerous delays as
the firms involved in the venture (including Arqiva, the BBC,
BT, ITV, Channel 4, TalkTalk, and Channel 5), have been trying
to perfect the products, eliminating any faults that they found in
the process.
Those interested in Google's IPTV services, will be able to get
the set-top-boxes as soon as next month. These will be available
solely from Sony for now, although other suppliers
are expected to jump on the bandwagon as well.
