Good news comes from Virgin Media as the cable
giant has gladly confirmed earlier today that its superfast fibre
broadband rollout is going to be complete in the coming spring.
This means that the cable firm is really neatly ahead of
schedule, with the original deadline previously announced to be
"mid-2012".
The deployment of Virgin Media's 100Mbps has started back in
2010 and until now has reached 10m homes, which
means there is roughly another 3m to go.
The company claims that there is a huge demand for its products,
especially fibre optic broadband, seen as at the moment the ISP
carries three quarters of a terabit in a second during peak hours
(roughly 6pm to 10pm on a weekday).
Jon James, Virgin Media's Executive Director of
Broadband, said in a statement:
"Soon half the country will be able to get superfast 100Mbps
broadband from us. Reaching today's milestone puts us ahead of
schedule as we help propel the UK up the global broadband
rankings.
"Broadband is coming of age as more people give up on slow DSL
in favour of superfast fibre optic speeds. With Virgin Media yet
again confirmed as the fastest by Ofcom just last week, this along
with our fantastic TiVo TV service means we have an incredible
combination that lets our customers enjoy the digitally connected
world to the full."
In addition, lest we forget, the sweet speed doubling that the provider has
promised for its customers.
Unfortunately, in other news, it also confirmed that it hopped on
the price boosting bandwagon as other
providers, which means that it's going to raise its prices as a
part of its seasonal product review process.
