Mobile broadband is the future, Ericsson predicts

Ericsson decided to put its swami hat on and predict what the future holds and according to the tech manufacturer, it holds a boom in mobile broadband usage.

In more detail, it sees mobile data traffic increasing ten times in the period of the upcoming five years, as the popularity of smartphones among other web-enabled mobile devices is on the rise, the rollout of 4G services is upon us as well as the growing demand for streaming internet video content.

According to its calculations, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions will also grow almost endlessly from 900m to 5bn.

The tech giant also predicted that in five years time 30 per cent of us all will be living in urban or metropolitan area with a density of 1,000 people per square kilometre.

And finally, Ericsson also suggested that a huge percentage of all mobile traffic will be coming from smartphones, as shown on the firm's graph below:
