Moments ago, BT has announced the official
commercial launch of its FTTP
(fibre-to-the-premises) products.
What does commercial launch mean? Simply that you can now buy
and use the "ultrafast" product if you live in either
Ashford, Bradwell Abbey, Chester South, Exeter, Forest
Hill, Highams, Park, Ilford Central, Leytonstone, St
Austell or York.
Do not panic if you are not ready for speeds up to 100Mbps,
FTTC (fibre-to-the-cabinet) is also available at
the aforementioned locations, which can deliver speeds of up to
40Mbps.
Here's a quick look at what BT's FTTP is all about:
BT Infinity Option 3 (broadband and calls):
- Download Speeds of up to 100Mbps
- Upload Speeds of up to 15Mbps
- No usage cap
- Free evening & weekend calls (to other UK
landlines)
- Free connection
- Free Wireless Router
- 18 Month Contract
Price: £35 a month and a line rental charge of £10 on top.
If all goes according to plan, more or less 2.5 million premises
will be able to take advantage of ultrafast broadband.
John Petter, MD of BT's Consumer Division,
stated:
"Today's addition expands our product offering, so we now
have three versions of BT Infinity offering high speeds that allow
families to do more online at the same time.
"BT Infinity Option 3 matches the top speed currently
available in the UK and beats the upload speed offered by Virgin
Media's best offering."
Needless to say, both BT and Virgin Media are
working on rolling out even faster speeds.
