More problems with 4G to follow - because of various levels of
disturbances with television signals, firms which will win a slice
at the spectrum auction for 4G deployment should be looking at
splashing out as much as £100m to sort the interference with TV
issue out.
Ofcom said in its statement:
"The 800MHz spectrum is adjacent to the frequencies used for
digital terrestrial television broadcasting.
"Due to its proximity, this could cause the signals from
mobile base stations to interfere with set-top boxes and digital
televisions in the future.
"This could potentially affect up to 3% of digital
terrestrial television viewers if no measures were put in place to
solve the problem."
According to the media regulator, the total cost of installation
and set up of equipment might reach £53m with additional expenses
as well as migration charges could pump up the price to £100m.
