It seems that offering IPTV services makes customers stay with
the provider for good, according to recent reports.
InfoCom, an analyst firm, has conducted a study which found that
broadband providers that offered internet-based television services
as a part of their bundle had the most loyal customer base.
Nevertheless, the company, which looked at IPTV markets in both
North America and Europe, noted that this rapidly growing sphere is
yet to generate significant amounts of revenue to internet service
providers (ISPs).
InfoCom stated that clients who signed up for broadband and home
phone services combined with internet TV services from a single ISP
were less likely to switch providers in the near future.
UK-based companies, such as BT, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, to
name a few, were also arguably anticipating that broadband TV would
prevent their customers from migrating to other firms.
Currently, while BT and TalkTalk are on board with the YouView
project (also known as Project Canvas), Virgin Media is in the
middle of developing its own IPTV service.
