Although Youview's (also known as Project Canvas) launch has
been delayed, it did not stop making headlines and this time it's
about appointing a new Non-Executive Chairman.
Lord Alan Sugar of the 'The Apprentice' was selected for the
role replacing former non-exec Kip Meek.
Mr Meek was quoted as saying that:
"It has been apparent for some time that the YouView board
would benefit from additional expertise in consumer marketing and
technology delivery.
"Lord Sugar clearly supplies this. As the venture progresses
towards launch, the change in Chairman makes sense. I wish Lord
Sugar well."
Meek has previously held various posts in the media and
communications industry, these include top dog names such as BT, Ofcom and YouView,
among others.
It has been speculated that the latest appointment is directly
connected to keeping the IPTV project in the public's eye.
Charles Dunstone, Chairman of TalkTalk, reportedly said on the
behalf of the shareholders:
"Lord Sugar's experience in delivering set top box
technology to the consumer is unrivalled and we are delighted that
he will be with us as we introduce a new, enhanced television
experience to homes across the UK.
"As we move from the development to the delivery stage I
can't think of anyone better placed to help bring YouView to market
than Lord Sugar."
