Over 200,000 homes in the north-east will be in the midst of the
Digital Switchover today.
The analogue signals in the area will be switched off in two
stages, the fist today, the second on the 15th of September.
BBC2 will be the first to leave the analogue platform today
whilst all remaining channels will be moved over on the 15th.
Digital UK, the company heading up the switchover project, said
today that 9 out of 10 residents in the north-east already have
digital TV with the likes of Sky, Virgin Media, BT or Freeview.
Paul Hughes, Digital UK's national manager for
Scotland, said...
"For most people, the switchover is as simple as just retuning
their set. Satellite and cable viewers don't have to do
anything.
"This is the first stage of the switchover, and will allow over
150,000 viewers to receive digital TV for the first time.
"As of today, analogue BBC2 will be out and some digital
channels will be introduced. We'll take away all the analogue
channels and just leave digital services on September 15 - people
really must be sorted by then."
"We already know that nine out of 10 people in the area already
have some form of digital TV sorted - it's very popular. I think
people covered by the Durris transmitter are ready for this, and
I've no reason to believe it won't be a success."
