Despite the economic climate broadband subscribers in the UK
were up in the second quarter of 2010, a quarter which is
notoriously bad for sales.
Point Topic calculated that there were 269,900 broadband lines
added during the quarter compared with 354,100 in the first quarter
of 2010.
The total number of UK broadband lines now stands at 18,980,000
which is only 40,000 short of Point Topic's forecast.
It is likely there has been some deferred adoption during the
quarter resulting from consumer and business confidence falling in
the 2008-2009 winter. However, current Government spending reviews
and ongoing concerns about the economy could still affect consumer
take-up going forward.
