As the summer holidays draw to an end, we have done a detailed review of the broadband market to find the best last-minute broadband deals available, for those who act quickly.

The best deal we have found this week is from Plusnet.  Plusnet Value Broadband offers up to 20Mb broadband with a 10 Gig usage cap for £6.49 per month, with the first three months free. This works out at a virtually unbelievable £4.87 per month excluding line rental.

Plusnet is part of BT and comes with a strong reputation for reliability and customer service.  The Plusnet Value Broadband package comes with free set up, a free wireless router worth £40 and a 12 months contract.

If you want to bundle your broadband and home phone, you can take line Plusnet rental for an additional £11.25 per month, which comes with free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines.  With the three months free broadband, this works out at a total of £16.12 per month for the Plusnet broadband and home phone bundle.

The Plusnet offer ends at midnight on 31st August.

You may well be asking what other great deals are there out there.  So here is our "best of the rest".

Best broadband deal for Sky TV customers

Sky Broadband Everyday Lite is available to Sky TV customers for free (for those in a coverage area).  The package offers speedy up to 20Mb broadband, but with a very limited usage cap of just 2 Gig per month.  So we do not recommend this package for anyone except very basic web users.   For everyone else, we recommend the Plusnet deal

Best broadband deal if you have an O2 or Orange mobile phone contract

O2 and Orange offer home broadband with unlimited downloads and free evening and weekend calls, for £7.50 per month and £6.50 per month respectively.  And both are currently offering 3 months free.  These are god deals, but don't quite match the current Plusnet offer.

Best value fibre-optic broadband

After the recent Ofcom report which showed that fibre optic broadband genuinely does deliver significantly higher average broadband speeds than standard (DSL) broadband, many households are now actively considering fibre-optic broadband for the first time.

Currently the best value deal is from Virgin Media, who are offering their Broadband size (L) package with Phone size (M) for £5 per month for the first three months and then £12.50 per month (excluding line rental).  The package delivers up to 10Mb broadband with unlimited usage and should deliver close to the advertised speed.  You have to be in a Virgin Media cable area to receive this package.
