The business-to-business section of Sky's Easynet internet provider has been sold to LDC London, a private equity company, for £100 million.
The Easynet Global Services deal has still to be approved by the regulator and is subject to a "works council consultation in respect of certain Easynet employees", which could result in job losses.
Sky and LDC have agreed long-term access to the broadcaster's fibre network for Easynet Global Services, while Sky gets to keep Easynet's network assets in the UK. The ISP will remain an important supplier for Sky.
Andrew Griffiths, chief financial officer at Sky, said: "The acquisition of Easynet was central to the early success of Sky Broadband and Sky Talk. Whilst retaining the UK network assets to support the continued growth of our residential customers, we propose to exit the B2B segment with the sale of the business to a credible team and on attractive terms."
