Hoping to catch all the World Cup matches this year? Then it's time to invest in a digital set-top box as eight games will be available only on digital channels.
While the BBC and ITV will share coverage of the event, with most games being shown on BBC1, BBC2 or ITV1, eight matches will be shown on either BBC3, ITV2, ITV3 or ITV4 because of clashes with other games.
Regulator Ofcom said the championship was a Group A Listed Event, meaning that the rights to air live coverage must be offered to categories of broadcasters specified in the Broadcasting Act 1996.
These include those providing services which are free to air with national or near national coverage - currently BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five - and those providing all other television services.
The watchdog has launched a consultation on the issue and is inviting other broadcasters and interested parties to comment by April 1.
