An industry body has claimed that a proposed merger between two mobile broadband suppliers could be good news for some consumers.
The merger between Orange and T-Mobile was cleared by the European Commission after the two firms agreed to give up control of 15MHz of the total 60MHz they held in the 1800MHz spectrum band.
Anna Bradley, Chair of the Communications Consumer Panel, said that the merger getting the early go-ahead may lead to advantages for broadband customers.
She said: "UK consumers have up to now benefited from the choice, innovation and low prices that result from a competitive mobile market and we want to see this continue."
But Kevin Russell, chief executive of 3 UK, claimed the deal - cutting the number of mobile broadband providers to four - will create major competition issues.
