An internet security expert has said that people who subscribe to broadband bundles must ensure their web connections are secure.
Anti-virus, spyware and operating system updates may be key to ensuring computers are protected from online threats, according to Tony Neate.
The managing director of Get Safe Online, an IT initiative, also warned that the security of wireless internet connections is fundamental.
Mr Neate encouraged people to ensure the broadband connections are encrypted in order to prevent potential hackers gaining access to networks.
He said people must take action to ensure their computers are "very secure".
A recent study carried out by broadband provider TalkTalk showed that seven million homes and businesses across the UK may be vulnerable to Wi-Fi hijacking because their broadband connections are not encrypted.
