The US is a step ahead of the UK in the 3D TV revolution, as 3D TV sets have already gone on sale at Sears, with pre-orders being taken for Samsung 3D TV sets.
Last week Sears started taking pre-order for two Samsung 3D TV sets - a 46-inch model priced at $2,599 (£1,700) and a 55-inch set priced at $3,299 (£2,160).
Samsung forecasts selling 2 million 3D sets this year worldwide.
President of Samsung's visual display division Yoon Boo-Keun said: "We have also developed technology that converts 2D content into 3D, and that will enable consumers to experience watching TV with an extra visual dimension even when 3D content is somewhat less available."
In the UK, Sky is blazing the 3D TV trail and plans to launch the UK's first 3D TV channel later this year, which will feature a range of sports (including FAPL), movies and factual content in 3D. It will be available via existing Sky+ HD boxes. But it will need customers to have a 3D TV set, which are yet to go on sale in the UK market.
