A new 60-minute digital TV sports show is to be launched for European viewers on digital channel ESPN.

The flagship SportsCenter show, anchored by Michael Kim, is planned by the digital TV sports broadcaster for its ESPN America channel. It will be shown in the UK at 07:00 GMT.

The aim is to show at least 85 live events in the format in the next 12 months, including the opening match of the FIFA World Cup and to bring fans news, highlights and a personality each day that has been a staple of SportsCenter for decades, said Mr Krim.

ESPN, which has services available through digital TV platforms including Freeview, Virgin Media and Sky, has already announced that it is to launch a 3D TV channel in the US this year.

This latest move reflects ESPN's commitment to become a major sports broadcaster in the UK digital TV market and a key competitor for Sky Sports.
