Digital TV viewers in the UK are watching more television than ever before, according to a recent Ofcom survey.
During 2008, digital TV viewers in the UK watched an average of 3.8 hours of television a day, up 3.2% on the previous year, while the number of households fitted with digital television remained the highest in Europe with 88% of homes currently tuned in to digital services.
The survey looked at viewing patterns throughout European countries including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands as well as the United States.
Viewers in the UK lagged behind their American counterparts who watched the most television in 2008, an average of 4.6 hours a day, up 1.8% from 2007, while Italy, Spain and Poland all held on to the top spots for average viewing times in Europe.
Those in Sweden continued to watch the least TV at 2.7 hours a day, although this was a 1.9% increase across the year.
