Mobile Broadband Pay As You Go

Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband

If you don’t need to be connected to the World Wide Web the whole time and prefer to be in control of the service – you might as well opt for mobile broadband on a Pay as You Go basis. Some operators will happily supply you with a dongle which you can use for a month, if that’s all you need. This is a no-strings-attached service at its best.

However, as many things in life, it too has its pitfalls. Mobile broadband speeds will probably never get you a speeding ticket, as compared to fixed-line internet these are rather slow. While fibre providers can supply speeds of up to 120Mbps, portable internet will not go any faster than 6Mbps these days. Nevertheless, if you go for a Pay as You Go deal – you can trial it for a month and if you don’t like it, you simply opt for a different package or provider.

The new wave

We’ve mentioned that current mobile broadband deals are not as fancy in terms of speed, however that is soon to change. The whole industry is eagerly awaiting the coming of the new generation of mobile broadband, also known as 4G.

It is anticipated that the deployment of the fourth generation portable broadband is going to change the way we perceive mobile broadband as the speeds will be significantly faster than the current ones, and will even be able to match some of those supplied by budget ISPs at the moment.

The portable options

You can always get a dongle on a Pay as You Go basis, but that’s not the only option. You can access the web via your smartphone or tablet as these devices come with integrated mobile broadband. You can also use the service on a PAYG basis, or indeed a contract which would sort you out with inclusive calls, texts and data allowances.

For some portable internet is a temporary solution before they can have fixed-line broadband installed, others see it as a permanent option as they go online only to check mail and read the news. This allows the latter to save cash as they don’t need to pay line rental charges.

Is it for me?
