What is Mi-Fi?

Don't let the word scare you, it is easier than it looks.

It is mobile broadband and Wi-Fi in one gadget, so what you are looking at is:

Wi-Fi + Mobile Broadband = no other than MiFi

How does the tiny Mi-Fi work?

Not to be fooled by its small size, it is actually a powerful device. Inside it, there are compact wireless routers which are in fact Wi-Fi hotspots.

These connect to a cellular data network which in turn gives access to Wi-Fi devices that are situated within a 10m radius.

The Mi-Fi creates a local fast Internet connection.

Is it good for me?

If you have quite a few devices that you want to connect at the same time, then Mi-Fi could just be the device for you.

Although Mi-Fi is currently well-established in the US, it is just a question of time when it will dominate the UK market, as it already emerging. Also, if you get don't like to constantly recharge mobile devices - Mi-Fi is a good idea as it uses a rechargeable battery.

It is also secure, no one can use your connection as you can set up a password which only you will know.

Where can I get it from?

Broadband provider 3 (Three) is offering the device on both a pay monthly basis as well as on a pay as you go (PAYG) basis.

3 MiFi Pay as you go

• If you don't like the traditional PAYG, opt for the 3GB pre loaded plan.
• With the pre-loaded plan you get a 3-month data allowance of 3GB

3 MiFi Pay Monthly

• Choose between these: 1 month, 18 months and 24 months
• Usage limits? Go as high or low as you need: 1GB, 3GB and 5GB.
• You can purchase the modem and thus pay minimum monthly bills or pay monthly for both modem and the package until the contract expires.
