A Cable TV box from Virgin Media is a set-top box that enables you to watch digital cable TV. It plugs into fibre optic cables that come in from the street of a Virgin Media cabled area.

When you sign up to Virgin Media cable TV, an installation engineer will connect the fibre optic cable in the street to the Virgin Media cable TV box in your home. The installation will involve routing cables around your house and the engineer will talk this through with you to make sure you are happy with the work. The best thing about Virgin Media is that the cables are out of sight under the street - so you won't need a dish attached to your home like you would need from Sky.

Virgin Media offers a huge range of entertainment to suit all tastes. Features include on-demand digital TV and catch-up digital TV services from the BBC iPlayer, ITV Net Player and Channel 4 on-demand.

You can choose the basic Virgin Media box or you can go for a V+ HD box. The best thing about a V+HD box is not just being able to record your programmes, but also being able to watch them in high definition quality. Virgin Media offers many HD digital TV channels including amazing documentaries with National Geographic HD and spectacular sporting events on ESPN HD.

Some would say the Virgin V+HD box is more or less the same as a Sky+ HD box. Well, its not. The Virgin V+ HD box offers many more features that the Sky+ HD box does not have - such as huge on-demand content and the ability to record two channels at the same time, while you watch a third.

The main features of the Virgin Media V+ HD box are;

  •  High definition digital TV;
  •  You can pause, rewind and record live TV;
  •  You can record up to 80 hours of TV;
  •  A bonus over Sky+ - you can record two channels at the same time, while you watch a third;
  •  Record every episode in a series with the press of a button;
  •  Access to 100s of movies, entertainment and music content on-demand;
  •  Great range of stunning HD digital TV channels that's growing all the time.

If you love on-demand digital TV then you really can't go wrong with a Virgin Media V+ HD box.
It may have similar recording functions as Sky+ HD, but Sky just doesn't have the amount of on-demand content that Virgin Media can provide. The HD digital TV content is growing on Virgin Media, but Sky is offering the most HD channels at the moment.
