You can always opt for Sky Digital, if you don’t mind paying a monthly fee and installation charges (you will need to have a dish set up), but there is an array of other ways you can enjoy satellite television without breaking the piggybank.
Freesat is a brainchild of the BBC and ITV which can give you access to over a hundred channels. Not bad for a freebie. Of course, to enjoy the channels, you will need to get a satellite dish and a Freesat box (the gear may set you back under £200) which will fetch you the channels.
If a hundred channels are simply not enough for you, feast your eyes on the hybrid that is Freesat from Sky. Just like Freesat, you will have to have a dish set up along with a box. However, the good news is that you will get access to roughly 240 digital channels.
But that’s not all, you may keep those champagne corks popping. You can also simply get the right set top box and start getting television channels via TV aerial – and not a satellite dish or a Sky-powered box in-sight. This is possible with a little help from Freeview, which will allow you to watch 60 channels, slightly less than with a satellite TV dish stuck to your house wall.
If you happen to have a satellite receiver, you can watch Free to air channels. No sign ups or “please spell out your name on the dotted line”, which can be a delight, as surely there is an array of contracts you are tied to already.
But satellite services are good for other things too! Those residing in rural areas may opt for getting their broadband from a satellite ISP such as Tooway. For some, it even might be the only way to access the web, based on their location.
